I have been interested for several years in trying to find a solution to the high price of petrol and diesel fuels using technology for improving petrol and diesel consumption of cars and trucks. And it looks as if I have found one!
Whilst looking at several devices, so called "Major Breakthroughs"; magnets and fuel additives, I came across the Hydrogen on Demand, or HOD, device which was pioneered over the last few years by Water4Gas of California. The claims for this seemed too good to be true, but as I found out it is great.
During March 2008 I decided to really investigate the claims of the kits and came across several that were recommended as really saving you money. Some of these were very basic and cheap do-it-yourself kits (around $50.00), whilst others quite sophisticated and pricey ($6,000).
I went, as you usually do, for the middle priced solution at between $100 and $300 per kit. The cost of the relevant kits varied with the size of the vehicle engine, age of the vehicle and the fuel used. This was due to later cars with computer controlled fuel injection systems requiring add-ons to ensure that the computer didn't add too much fuel into the engine as it sensed an increased amount of oxygen and hydrogen gases going into the engine.
So in 2008 I built a website promoting HOD kits for both cars and trucks, and these went well until the great fall in oil prices. It looks like everyone thinks that 2008 was the end of high prices for petrol and diesel, but yet again the prices are creeping up and will soon reach the dizzy heights of mid 2008 ($1.60/litre or $7/gallon) unless governments step in and stop petrol companies just increasing their profits as they wish.
My Experience
The kit I fitted to my Holden Calais 5.7litre V8 as a trial went reasonably well with initial gains around 10% fuel savings. The Calais was fitted with a single electrolyzer of the original Water4Gas design with a spiral electrode wrapped around a plastic core, which came from USA and cost around $160 so I was reasonably happy with the results using just one electrolyzer.
Then I decided to try for more savings with the V8 and fitted an improved version of the electrolyzer, known as the Upgrade Starter Kit and immediately the savings went up to around 15%, not much improvement. So then I added a second Upgrade electrolyzer and the savings went right up to 30%! Much better. This was because the first kit was really only suitable for engines up to 3 litres.
With this great improvement I then fitted a Starter Pack to our 1.6 litre Hyundai Getz saloon and the consumption went from 31mpg to 47mpg, so we are making savings of around 50%, which means we are now saving just under $2.40 a gallon with petrol at $5.25/gallon or $1.15/litre. This means we save around $16/week, as we use around 6.5 gallons a week. We will have paid for the kit in under 10 weeks, and then we are still saving $16 a week at present prices (Feb 2009).
With the Holden I am spend around $50 a week on petrol so with my savings of 30% I save $15 a week, the kit will be paid for in under 10 weeks again! So between us the cars will make a saving of around $30 each week, or $1500 a year. So if petrol rises again, what will we be saving then?

Fuel Injection $81.25 Fuel injection is a system for mixing fuel with air in an internal combustion engine. It has become the primary fuel delivery system used in gasoline automotive engines, having almost completely replaced carburetors in the late 1980s. A fuel injection system is designed and calibrated specifically for the type(s) of fuel it will handle. Most fuel injection systems are for gasoline or diesel applications. With the advent of electronic fuel injection (EFI), the diesel and gasoline hardware has become similar. EFIs programmable firmware has permitted common hardware to be used with different fuels. Carburetors were the predominant method used to meter fuel on gasoline engines before the widespread use of fuel injection. A variety of injection systems have existed since the earliest usage of the internal combustion engine. The primary difference between carburetors and fuel injection is that fuel injection atomizes the fuel by forcibly pumping it through a small nozzle under high pressure, while a carburetor relies on low pressure created by intake air rushing through it to add the fuel to the airstream.
