Oil Furnace: Pros and Cons
Many homes today have their separate heating systems for heating hot water and heating the house. There are those, on the other hand, who have systems that manage both these tasks altogether with the use of just a single unit. These homes have oil furnaces and if you have such heating system or you are planning to buy one, here are a couple of things that you must remember:
Advantages
One of the evident advantages of the oil furnace is that you will have only one system to manage your heating system and hot water system. Plus, you will no longer need to rely on traditional means of heating your water.
Since the system works in an on-demand method, your water also gets heated only when you need it. Thus, it is energy-efficient that only a little amount of energy is lost in the process.
Another advantage is the fact that this oil-fueled furnace is a lot cheaper than the traditional gas or electricity furnace; therefore you can get extra savings from it. Also, with oil furnaces, you will be able to easily manage your home's temperature via digital thermostats.
Drawbacks
This heating system has also a share of drawbacks as well. One of which is the fact that this system does not produce hot water as much as the traditional heater. Also, it is likely for you to experience sudden drop of water temperature when it is used successively. A supplemental tank may help ease this problem but then, it will mean another expense.
Another drawback that you may encounter is the fact that you will not be able to reduce your heating costs at all times, even though the oil-fueled furnace is known as the cheapest heating system. This will still vary on the environment that you are in or the location where you are at.
There are also a few brands that are known to produce noise after a few years of usage. Unlike the quality oil-fueled furnace, cheap to average furnaces may not last as long as expected. They may not work quietly after some years of usage.

Furnace $117.9 A furnace is a device used for heating. The name derives from Latin fornax, oven. The earliest furnace was excavated at Balakot, a site of the Indus Valley Civilization, dating back to its mature phase c. 25001900 BC. The furnace was most likely used for the manufacturing of ceramic objects. In American English and Canadian English, the term furnace on its own is generally used to describe household heating systems based on a central furnace known either as a boiler or a heater in British English, and sometimes as a synonym for kiln, a device used in the production of ceramics. In British English the term furnace is used exclusively to mean industrial furnaces which are used for many things, such as the extraction of metal from ore smelting or in oil refineries and other chemical plants, for example as the heat source for fractional distillation columns. The term furnace can also refer to a direct fired heater, used in boiler applications in chemical industries or for providing heat to chemical reactions for processes like cracking, and is part of the standard English names for many metallurgical furnaces worldwide. Solar Furnace $87.62 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A solar furnace is a structure used to harness the rays of the sun in order to produce high temperatures, usually for industry. This is achieved using a curved mirror (or an array of mirrors) that acts as a parabolic reflector, concentrating light (Insolation) onto a focal point. The temperature at the focal point may reach 3,500 C (6,330 F), and this heat can be used to generate electricity, melt steel, make hydrogen fuel or nanomaterials. Open Hearth Furnace $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Open hearth furnaces are one of a number of kinds of furnace where excess carbon and other impurities are burnt out of the pig iron to produce steel. Since steel is difficult to manufacture due to its high melting point, normal fuels and furnaces were insufficient and the open hearth furnace was developed to overcome this difficulty. Most open hearth furnaces were closed by the early 1990s, not least because of their fuel inefficiency, being replaced by the basic oxygen furnace or electric arc furnace.
